Educators Join ‘Pink Friday’

Teachers across California wore pink on Friday,
March 13, 2009, to acknowledge the state budget cuts to education. Teachers and administrators from the five Santa Clarita school districts demonstrated at nine major intersections to show support for education funding. As of March 6, more than 19,000 pink slips had been issued to teachers across California.

Budget cuts will also cause an increase in class sizes, a loss of support staff, a loss of buses and other important education programs. California is last in the nation for per pupil funding and Santa Clarita schools are the lowest funded schools in the state. That makes Santa Clarita schools dead last for funding.
